Common Symptoms of ADHD
An individual with ADHD will generally find it harder to focus, concentrate, or learn for long periods of time compared to the average person. It majorly affects an individual’s time management and organization skills in an impairing way. The presence of this condition not only makes it harder to pay attention, but it also triggers impulsive behavior that results in episodes of frustration, irritability, and overexcitement.
There are different levels of ADHD. The three main subtypes are predominantly inattentive, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive, and combined.
Signs of predominantly inattentive ADHD include:
- The habit of making careless mistakes
- Difficulties with focusing on tasks
- A hard time following directions
- Regular instances of losing or misplacing items
- The tendency to easily get distracted
Signs of predominantly hyperactive-impulsive ADHD include:
- Challenges with sitting still
- The inability to concentrate on quiet activities
- Excessive talkativeness and the inclination to interrupt others
- The lack of patience to wait their turn
Some patients show a combination of both forms of ADHD.
